A bike tour with unlikely weather

October 6th, 2009

Bike rest to appreciate the sights

Cindy’s JET programme friends from the UK came to visit the good ol’ US & took the time to visit us here in the Bay Area. We love hosting visitors, as it gives us the opportunity to act as tourists & do touristy things. They didn’t have much time to spend in San Francisco, so we thought a nice bike tour through Fisherman’s Wharf, Fort Mason, Crissy Field, across the Golden Gate Bridge, and ending with a ferry back from Sausalito would give them the opportunity to see most of the SF sights.

As Californians, we take our weather for granted. Of all the summer days for there to be a freak raincloud passover, it just so happens to rain right before we ride across the Golden Gate bridge. Of course, being the genius that I am, I dressed in layers of the material that soaks up rain like a sponge: cotton. The good news was that I remembered I packed a bike jacket that folds neatly & tightly in the bottom of my backpack. The bad news was that I finally remembered I had it after my bike ride. I wasn’t a happy camper toward the end of the tour:

Regardless, I’m glad we made the trip. San Francisco & the Bay Area is a gorgeous place. Don’t forget it!
