Brendan’s last day at work

May 15th, 2010

A few weeks ago, our office video expert & former teammate Brendan left the company for bigger opportunities. Since we love him so much, the company threw him a nice party in the middle of the day. I photographed most of these shots using his Canon 7D. A truly bittersweet moment: sad to see him leave, but he has a sweet camera (did I use that word properly?).

We’ll miss you around the office, Brendo!

Late Sunday celebrity sighting in San Mateo

April 19th, 2010

Just when I thought I was going to wrap up my weekend, Randy texts me, saying that the guys were in town for dessert. Mae & Dave were in the group, & I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to congratulate the newlyweds (they just got married on Saturday—congrats!). The only place open at 11:00pm on a Sunday night was the ABC Bakery Cafe in Downtown San Mateo. It was a pretty quiet night in the shop. The food was good, but lacked a bit on the bakery side.

The private upstairs party was another story. Andrew asked the waitstaff what was going on, & he said that an actress from Hong Kong was named Fiona Sit was in the store, but we—as well as most of the staff—weren’t allowed to go upstairs to take a peek. Feeling giddy, we wait for a moment to see what she’s all about. About an hour after sitting & eating, a young lady walks down the stairs to the restrooms wearing some gold boots. Couldn’t miss her.

Good thing I had my Canon 5D on hand. Thanks to Andrew for asking if we can take a picture with her. She was a nice gal, even congratulating Mae & Dave for the big plunge.

Now we’re all part of the Fiona Sit fan club.

Getting an A’s fleece ‘Sluggie’

April 18th, 2010

I had to come in to work last Thursday morning so I can take the super early shuttle to get to the Oakland Coliseum. The A’s were giving away a fleece Snuggie—what they called a Sluggie—to the first 10,000 fans. I had to get a good spot in line to guarantee getting the wearable blanket. Otherwise, my wizard hat wouldn’t make sense (photo above).

Thanks to all my friends & family who came out to rock the left field bleachers. Without them, I wouldn’t have got us on DiamondVision (finally!) & started the wave that went all the way around the Coliseum 7.5 times. Ahh, what a good game.

Another thanks to my cousin Daniel for wearing my camera & taking almost all of the photos of the evening. Nice shots!

MLB Spring Training in Arizona

March 19th, 2010

Yeah, we’re big baseball nuts. We couldn’t wait for baseball to start in the Bay, so we flew out to Arizona to get our fix! This was our first MLB Spring Training out in Arizona, & we can’t wait to do it again next year.

We wake up in obscene hours here in Bay to catch a 7:00am Saturday morning flight from SFO. We land in Phoenix, shuttle over to the rental car complex (a 10 minute bus ride from the terminal) to pick up our PT Cruiser, then drive straight to Scottsdale Stadium to watch the Giants play the A’s. The game ends at 5:00ish, so we take a 15-minute walk from the park to our hotel to freshen up for dinner. It was the night of the Pacquiao fight, so we walked over to a local steakhouse for a little dinner, boxing, & mechanical bull riding.

After church on Sunday morning in Tempe, we went straight to the A’s Spring Training ballpark at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium, sliding into our seats a bit before showtime. It felt good to see the ol’ boys back on the field. On top of that, we were blessed with gorgeous weather during our whole trip & the A’s winning both games during our visit.

No, I didn’t get any iPhone signatures this time, or caught any homerun/foul balls, but one cool baseball-related thing that happened during our visit: at the restaurant on Saturday night, we were almost sure that Alfonso Soriano from the Chicago Cubs was dining at the table next to ours.

Our sweet rental PT Cruiser Trevor Cahill is looking thinner Kurt Suzuki at the plate, Eric Chavez at first Pre-game duties Cindy at the ballpark Wife & husband at Scottsdale A's & Giants at Scottsdale Outfield grass seating Ian's long lens

Happy birthday, Marcus!

March 12th, 2010

I love little kids & how they find great amount of joy in the small things. Marcus’s parents spent hours the day before hand-crafting the decorations, but he finds much pleasure with the store-bought mylar balloon. To be fair, they were pretty shiny, big & non-threatening!

Sure, baby Marcus won’t remember his first birthday party, but he knows that he’s surrounded by people who love him! Happy birthday, young lad. Thanks to the parents for the awesome Hukilau lunch! Your many hours of preparation showed.
