My new acting career

June 4th, 2009

My new acting career

Actually, not quite, but maybe someday! At least I can start a new IMDB entry with my most recent gig.

Work is a fun place. Normally, I’m at my desk for eight hours a day, most of my time spent drawing nice pictures on my computer. As a part of the company’s creative team, we work closely with the video team (who produce phenomenal work, by the way). The environment is super casual at work, so on occasion, I’ll wear one of my classy A’s fitted caps to work:

The hats are loud & gaudy, but I love em!

Anyway, perhaps I caught the video team’s attention with my taste of fashion, so they had me in mind when they were casting a b-boy group for a client’s video. The shoot was offsite in the Clarion Alley up in the City, along with the rest of the video crew along with an actual professional actress. We had a blast shooting it:

Anyway, cut to the chase. I play a b-boy featured on this microsite I designed:

I make my appearance after the pottymouth elderly lady; I’m wearing a brown vest with a beanie.

Maybe this won’t be my breakthrough performance into Hollywood. Maybe I should just start small & become a YouTube star instead.

My new hobby in baseball: iPhone signature collecting

April 2nd, 2009

First off, I’m a super huge Oakland Athletics fan. When I learned that my boys were back in the area, I couldn’t pass up on an opportunity to come visit them! I planned my day to check out the Web 2.0 expo, then called up Angelo for some exhibition A’s vs. Giants game action (Angelo is an avid Giants fan).

The crowd was light. It was a good opportunity to get some players’ signatures. Being the geek that I am, I utilized technology to collect signatures. While everyone carried Sharpies, I used my iPhone—with the app Sketches installed—then ran to the edge of the field like the rabid fanboy that I was. Right fielder rookie Ben Copeland & killer closing pitcher Brad Ziegler were signing autographs, so I stood in line behind the younger kids for my turn.

Ziegler was holding a Sharpie when I asked, “Can you sign my iPhone?” He responded with a courteous “no.” Perhaps he was confused.

I waited in line again & reworded my request: “Seriously, can you sign my iPhone? You can sign with your finger.” I guess this request doesn’t come up often, because Ben Copeland also thought I was joking when I asked him for one.

Success! Here’s my geeky accomplishment:

So I added a new goal to my baseball fan things-to-do list:

  1. Catch a foul ball/homerun ball.
  2. Be on ESPN somehow.
  3. Throw a tailgate party.
  4. Start a digital autograph collection on my iPhone.

If you haven’t seen the first official photo in this collection—the photo that prompted this idea—here it is: Dana Eveland, A’s starting pitcher for 2009.

Wish me luck!
